  • + Position Overview

    Dimension Inx is disrupting the way we treat patients and restore healthy tissues and organs, using a proprietary biomaterials platform to develop 3D-printed therapeutic products. We are an energetic team of materials and biomedical engineers, scientists, designers, manufacturing experts, and market and business leaders and are a well-financed, venture-backed company with big ambitions, and currently ramping up for a period of rapid growth.

    The Director/Sr. Director of R&D Engineering will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer. This is an experienced leadership role focusing on collaborative early-stage product development projects, with direct management responsibility for a team of engineers. The Director/Sr. Director of R&D Engineering will be an in-house expert on designing, developing, and applying new biomaterial solutions for therapeutic material-cell interactions based on Dimension Inx’s core platform technology.

    The ideal fit for this role combines leadership and strategic mindset with a technical focus: a lead design scientist or engineer who combines tissue engineering with material development, can quickly develop and iterate new materials and biofabrication techniques, plan and drive multiple and varied projects simultaneously, and mentor a growing team of materials and biomedical project engineers. Skills in problem-solving, stakeholder management, communication, and organizational leadership will contribute to success in this role.

    + Key Responsibilities

    People Leadership

    • Lead and mentor a staff of 8+ engineers and researchers; set quarterly objectives for the department; prioritize projects and initiatives; monitor progress against milestones and objectives

    • Work closely with the Senior Director Product Development and Program Manager to make and meet schedules/commitments, create and manage budgets, and ensure coordination consistency across projects and schedules

    Project & Strategic Leadership

    • Lead the development and integration of project and program strategies to drive toward commercialization through a Stage Gate product development process; develop and evaluate alternatives against agreed criteria. With a team, select strategies and appropriate level of risk using insights into broad program implications to drive products toward commercialization

    • Provide executive-level communications to senior management on progress, challenges, and recommendations for continuous improvement

    • Review and analyze proposals to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures. Approve and submit recommendations to Sr. Management. Responsible for preparation of project cost estimates up to multi-million dollar range. Manages and forecasts project expenditures and cost tracking

    Technical Skills

    • Oversee, execute, and/or provide engineering and development expertise on various activities, including but not limited to:

    o Concept and prototype development of new biomaterials for various cell/tissue interactions and clinical applications

    o Cell and tissue sourcing and testing in conjunction with biomaterials

    o Biopolymer modification and chemistry

    o Materials characterization and analysis

    o Relevant physical benchtop testing

    o Development/execution of in vitro and in vivo experimental plans and test methods

    o Creation of draft and final reports on various development activities

    • Proficiently utilize additive manufacturing technology such as 3D-printing for use with Dimension Inx’s core technology platform

    • Coordinate, create, review, and/or approve technical process protocol, study report documentation, and SOPs with adherence to internal quality systems and policies

    • Effectively troubleshoot and engage team to solve business and technical challenges in partnership with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Clinical, and other functions as applicable; recommend formulas, ingredients, processes, or equipment modifications to improve function and manufacturability of products in development; evaluate applicability and impact of technical methods and solutions referred by junior staff

    + Position Requirements

    PhD or MS with at least 10 years of industry experience in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering or related engineering field, with progressive industry leadership responsibilities

    • e.g. tissue engineering and regenerative medicine experience with a deep understanding of cell-material interactions, data analysis, and experimental design

    • e.g. experience with materials science engineering principles and concepts, ideally with additional knowledge on powder-based polymer, ceramic, and composite biomaterials

    Proven experience with therapeutic product development (preferably medical device / combination product)

    • Leading analytical and clinical validation studies

    • Regulatory submission (e.g. IDE/IND, PMA/BLA etc), and Lifecycle Management as it pertains to FDA and associated harmonized standards

    • Excellent understanding of quality assurance processes

    • Ownership and authorship of Design History Files

    • Leading Device Risk Management initiatives

    Proven ability to oversee and manage strategic partnerships and collaborations

    Display solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills, and effectively communicates with customers, multiple teams and diverse stakeholders across the company

    The Manager/Sr. Manager of Product Strategy will report directly to the Vice President of Strategic Growth to shape the direction of our products/solutions and assist driving our company’s innovation and growth efforts. This individual will perform market research, assess and analyze potential strategic partnerships, and gather competitive intelligence to generate data-driven, forward-looking scenarios and recommendations that inform our product roadmap and commercial strategy and ensure continued progress in a dynamic and competitive landscape. He or she will also work collaboratively as part of cross functional, product development team to drive discovery research, problem validation, and solution verification. This opportunity is for someone who wants to contribute meaningfully to an organization’s strategic direction and growth.

    The ideal candidate is high-performing and analytical, with previous experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, preferably in biotech. He or she must bring a combination of creativity, high energy, and focus, as well as an investigative drive and interest in engaging across a variety of projects.     + Key Responsibilities

    Product Strategy

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute product requirements and strategies through concepting, scoping, and go-to-market phases that align with business objectives.

    • Assess and monitor the market and competitive/technological landscape to inform new product opportunities and current product requirements.

    • Develop business cases with supporting financial models that provide a clear vision and strategy of short and long-term commercial goals and objectives aligned with overall business priorities. • Ensure leadership alignment and visibility into key strategic program updates and help drive programs toward success.

    Corporate Strategy

    • Analyze and predict future market trends to design growth strategies and plans. • Collaborate with team members to define new opportunities and solutions which can be translated into future growth targets.

    • Benchmark competitive company portfolios, capabilities, and strategies as well as emerging technologies to identify long-term strategic opportunities.

    • Develop compelling business cases that utilize data-driven rationale and quantitative models to assess identified strategic opportunities.

    • Communicate findings to the leadership team for evaluation, feedback, and to influence them for resources, projects, ideas, etc.

    Communications Strategy

    • Collaborates with leadership team to develop tactical plans and communication strategies. • Support the development of strategic communications and brand-building materials, including the publication and PR strategy for products and investor relations.

    • Ensure that the company’s positions and interests are effectively, accurately, and persuasively communicated, with the necessary fact-checking and research.

    + Position Requirements

    • MBA or PhD/MS (Engineering or Life Sciences) is preferred. More important is 4+ years of relevant work experience required in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Applicable/translatable experience may include biotech strategy, strategy consulting, upstream product management, or private equity/venture capital.

    • Enjoy working in a collaborative, high-performing, and results-driven environment, where success is dependent upon working with other teams and engaging diverse perspectives.

    • Experience with strategy development, scenario analysis, and financial modeling is critical. • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of abstract and concrete concepts and synthesize them into technical, financial, regulatory, and business solutions.

    The Senior Materials Engineer will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer. This role will contribute to collaborative early-stage projects, internal innovation focused R&D, design and development of new biomaterials, as well as various new product development projects. The Senior Materials Engineer will be an in-house expert on utilizing, designing, testing, and characterizing solutions utilizing Dimension Inx’s core platform technology. The Senior Materials Engineer is a technically focused scientist or engineer who can quickly design and iterate new polymer-based biomaterials and biofabrication techniques, work on multiple and varied projects simultaneously, and help lead and mentor a growing team of materials and biomedical project engineers.

    + Key Responsibilities

    • Conceptualizes, designs, and develops new polymer-based biomaterials for different clinical applications

    • Proficiently utilizes additive manufacturing technology such as 3D-printing for use with Dimension Inx’s core technology platform

    • Coordinates and creates technical process protocols and SOPs with adherence to internal quality systems and policies

    • Independently and collaboratively creates, develops, executes early-stage project plans

    • Provides technical support and materials expertise on specific tasks and projects

    • Oversees and executes various activities including but limited to:

    o Conceptual and prototype development of new biomaterials

    o Materials characterization and analysis

    o Relevant physical benchtop testing

    o Development of experimental plans

    o Creation of draft and final reports on various development activities

    • Works closely with the New Product Development teams to evaluate and progress new technologies through a Stage Gate product development process

    • Provides engineering and development expertise on various laboratory and project activities

    • Conducts independent research to support projects and new biomaterials development

    • Works with and occasionally manages external third-party vendors and relationships

    • Mentors junior technical team members

    • Manages multiple R&D and new product development projects at a given time

    + Position Requirements

    • PhD or MS with greater than 5+ years of experience in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related engineering field

    • Significant experience with materials science engineering principals and concepts with a focus on biopolymer synthesis, modification, and characterization

    • 5+ years hands-on laboratory experience with volatile chemical handling, powder process and handling, material characterization and data analysis

    • Experimental design expertise and experience with materials characterization techniques including but not limited to scanning electron microscopy, static and dynamic mechanical testing, rheology, thermogravimetric analyses, differential scanning calorimetry, and mass spectroscopy

    • Strong working knowledge of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering concepts

    • Experience with extrusion-based 3D-printing/additive manufacturing technologies a plus

    • Ability to work independently and within teams on several projects at a given time

    • Excellent oral and written technical communication skills

    • Experience with training and mentoring junior personnel
